IUC Asia at the COP24 in Katowice

The IUC Asia team participated in two events within the COP24 held in Katowice, Poland. On the one hand side, the team leader Pablo Gándara participated in a panel discussion upon invitation of the Korean Ministry of Environment (MoE) with experts from Korea, Indonesia and the United Nations held at the Korean pavilion.  Mr Gándara delivered a speech on EU’s support to the implementation of the Global Covenant of Mayors (GCoM) in Asia through the IUC project. In the Chinese stand, he also joined the launching of the comparative study between on low carbon cities elaborated by China, Korea and Japan within the trilateral Join Research Programme.

On the other hand, the IUC Asia project mobilised Mr Boyd Jouman, Head of the Environment Department at Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) in Malaysia, to participate at the Global Covenant Day organised at the EU booth on 10 December 2018. Mr Jouman joined a panel discussion on financing energy and climate action plans.

Meetings were held with representatives from DG CLIMA and DG ENERGY of the European Commission.
