Within the framework of the Asia-Pacific Urban Forum, DG REGIO’s Principal Advisor Dr Rudolf Niessler met in Penang with a delegation from NDRC led by Mr Zhang Dongqiang, Deputy Director-General for Regional Economy of NDRC. At a side meeting-meeting, both sides reviewed the results of the city-to-city cooperation activities implemented within the IUC Asia programme. NDRC proposed to work in 2020 also on the issue of developing a circular economy approach for the Taihu Lake located in Jiangsu Province. Also, the progress of the EU-China Regional Innovation Study (currently under elaboration) was discussed. Dr Niessler also participated in the Leaders Dialogue on Urban Resilience, and Mr Zhang participated in the Leaders Dialogue on Urban Territorial Planning, organised by UN-HABITAT.
