EU Cities / Yangzhou Online Discussion on Horticulture Expo 2021

The Chinese IUC pilot city of Yangzhou (Jiangsu Province) and representatives from Stuttgart Region, Bologna, Rome and Greater Manchester discussed today the participation at the Horticulture Expo 2021, to be held in Yangzhou from April to October 2021 (see below PPT). At the online meeting, which included 12 participants, Ms. ZHU Yin from Yangzhou Foreign Affairs Office (FAO) explained to European experts the modalities of participation, including financial support offered by Yangzhou City. All EU city representatives were keen to discuss participation within their administrations but asked Yangzhou for an extension of the deadline due to the Corona Virus lockdown.

Rome-based urban development expert Fiammetta Curcio introduced 3 relevant programmes in which the City of Rome is a partner of, especially the EU Rurban project. From Stuttgart regional association, Frieder Oesterle introduced the Remstal horticultural show organised by 16 municipalities of the Stuttgart regions. Marino Cavallo from Bologna introduced several EU programmes in which Bologna is participating, including Madre (Interreg). Melody Liu from Greater Manchester explained that a delegation from Yangzhou and China’s Flower Asociation has visited Salford in 2019 for discussion of an eventual participation. European experts proposed to Yangzhou and to the IUC project to jointly work at the Expo 2021.
