IUC, Nanjing and Stuttgart Pilot Industrial Design Cooperation

Experts from Stuttgart Region and Nanjing Fair met online on Tuesday 05 May 2020 to develop a cooperation concept for industrial design, an area of interest for both sides. Margit Wolf, Project Manager for Creative Industries at Stuttgart Regional Economic Development Agency and Frieder Oesterle from Stuttgart Regional Association met with Oscar Prat from Nanjing Messe and Pablo Gándara from the IUC Asia team.  At the meeting, Stuttgart and Nanjing Messe representatives agreed to cooperate in launching a platform for industrial design along with Nanjing Jianye district. The portal should strengthen the internationalisation of Stuttgart Regio industrial design and educational service providers thus contributing to its sustainable urban and regional development.

The portal aims to promote transnational cooperation by:

  • Facilitating exchange between higher education institutions via online courses, professional and academic training.
  • Supporting Stuttgart-based industrial design research institutes to access the Chinese market.
  • Establishing contacts between Stuttgart-based industrial designers and Nanjing-based companies by hosting a database accessible for SME’s and larger Nanjing corporates for specific projects.
  • Establishing a regular series of online events to explore cooperation in specific areas of industrial design.

Moreover, Nanjing Jianye will provide a dedicated space for the presence activities, including a showroom, seminar rooms and a shared workspace. The goal is to create an ecosystem for industrial design and to build bridges between domestic and foreign design talents.
